I’ve missed you,
That I can’t deny;
each thought, each feeling, each prayer, each sigh
It’s you, they always align by.
My darling —I.
O’ me, my second self, O’ my.
The only words I tell my soul,
O’ me, my whole.
“I’ll meet you nigh.
Before my time is due.
Till then I just miss you.”
I’ve missed you,
& the roses know,
Each time the wuthering winds may blow.
In soothing springs that surge away my swooning spirit.
Such tender climes may come and smear it.
For what spring may bloom,
without the scent of thy perfume?!
& in my lifelong autumn I wither
without you hither!
That my heart is forever torn through,
For I’m missing you.
I’ve missed you,
& becalm ,O’ my days!
O’ years seek all my life & gaze!
Since dawn our soul was strained & carved in two.
Thereafter I have ceased no yearning through.
Yearning like a sinner to sin.
Yearning like a pilgrim to God.
Our veins should be woven under my skin!
Outside of you I deem me naught!
I can’t reckon what I am or who
while I’m missing you.
I’ve missed you,
before my mightiest fear became your loss,
before our roads were doomed to cross,
before our waters were doomed to flow,
before we were doomed to be born & grow,
before I saw or came to know,
The very thought of meeting you.
I’ve missed you,
in ways I can’t,
in words I shan’t,
in every prayer or hymn or chant,
in every streak, or color, or hue,
in the nostalgic old & the vivid new,
in youth and age.
Be me a fool or a sage.
Be it in freedom or in a cage.
All that I know as I always knew,
I’ll always be missing you,
in dreary dreams and scary screams,
in oceans, in seas, in lakes, in streams,
in skies, in suns , in stars, and beams,
in lands, in trees, in scapes, in themes.
O’ me, my second self, O’ my.
The only words I tell my soul,
O’ me, my whole.
“I’ll meet you nigh.
Before my time is due.
Till then I’m always missing you.”
