You’ll wonder why I stop,
As we begin to pray.
You’ll wonder how all words retreat,
How they may cease, escape, or stray.
As my eyes gaze at God & you
—As adamant as mountains,
As vivid as fountains;
Mirroring each light, each hue,
each colour of our prayer,
That ripens in the air.
Know, then, that I,
So lost in prayer like;
A Hermit finding heaven,
A Solitary finding company,
A Monk finding monastery,
A Pilgrim finding shrine,
A Sinner finding absolution,
A Man finding God,
So is, me finding you.
For in you, have I found a Love,
A Faith, a Hope, a Vision.
In you, have I found a Kin,
A Home, a Lineage, a Root.
In you, have I found a Creed,
A worship, a patron, an Intercession.
In you, have I found Tomorrow,
Now, Today & Yesterday.
In you, have I found conscience,
A Self, a Worth, & a Law.
In you, have I found silence;
A silence, telling an endless prayer,
That ripens in the air.
Know, then, that I,
Holding my tongue,
As my soul sings a song
Of an aesthetic thankfulness
To all what is & was & will be.
To the times when “Now” could I not see.
Dedicated to God & you & me.
To all the wounds & all the scars.
To all the journals & memoirs.
A Song, telling of you & I,
Telling of God’s imprint,
upon the faces of our fate.
Telling of that divine tint,
Waiting for all those who wait.
A Song — hidden in my silent prayer,
that ripens in the air.
