St. Theresa of Avila, 1827, by François Gérard.

Theresa

The heart in me burning;
the aching, the yearning,
the caring, the searing,
the scheming, the turning.
The heart in me burning.

The self in me daring;
the drearing, the bearing,
the warning, the scorning,
the tearing, the smearing.
The self in me cheering.

The heart in me praising;
the raising, the razing,
the aching, the breaking,
the freezing, the blazing.
The sonorous hell-raising.

The soul in me kneeling;
the calling, the feeling,
the teeming, the dreaming,
the veiling, the sealing.
The soul in me kneeling.

The fiend in me luring;
The passion enduring.
The sultry temptation,
That’s wisdom obscuring.
Those whispers, alluring.

The love I surrender,
that I tear asunder.
The aches of confining,
refining, yet tender,
declining yet splendour.
Those aches of surrender.
